Can Too Many Different Key Words in Your Posts Dilute Your Overall Effectiveness in Google

My Own Wall Of Words
At the bottom of this post are the tags or key words that I have used in my posts since I started here on ActiveRain. They showed up when I was editing a post using Safari and have no idea how to duplicate their appearance but I was certainly impressed with how many there were. And that may not be such a good thing. Technically, these key words found in my posts here in the Rain are searchable in Google but I tried a few at random and my post didn't show up anywhere within in the first 10 pages of a Google search. No one usually looks beyond the first page or two anyway so most of these words are useless if I want to be found as a REALTOR® serving the public in San Diego.
I never realized through over 800 posts just how many tag words I have used but most importantly, the use for tag words is to create a depth in the searchable keywords for Google ranking and being found on Google searches by consumers. Think of them as an index for your posts. One can spread yourself over so many useless words and word phases as to actually dilute your effectiveness? Lessen learned. It is not the quantity of tags used but the relevancy to your blog post, quality and consistency of using key words that will give you the best ranking and it increases greatly that you will found by words that your consumers search for. All the rest are useless and probably shouldn't have been keywords in the first place. In other words, they should have relevance to what you do and where you are doing it. And for me that would be all things Real Estate in San Diego.
I think of all the members here in the Rain, when I discovered all these useless words, my thoughts immediately went to Lenn Harley who has such a clear understanding of this issue. She would say time after time in conversations, "I am no expert" but.... and she would go on to explain the importance of getting this issue right. Over time I learned but now and then I think I still slip into old habits and use too many useless tags and actually miss putting into the post the right ones for relevancy.
So what is relevant? Here it is in a nutshell. I list and sell real estate in San Diego. The property listings and home sales consisting of homes, townhomes, condominiums and land and I do it through many San Diego cities and San Diego communities within San Diego county. I have written about relevant topics like title, escrow, the selling and purchasing process. I have written about mortgages and underwriting guidelines topics, appraisal, local, state and federal laws that govern the process of transferring title, property taxes and federal tax credits. I have written about land use, zoning,encumbrances, easements, clouds on title, bank owned properties and the foreclosure process. I have written of and about housing market reports, market trends, housing forecasts. Not to forget, IDX Local Home Search home inspections, doing your due diligence, distressed property, short sale,how to photograph a home interior and exterior for the MLS, home insurance, even about Veterans now serving their communities in the real estate industry and the real estate industry in general, etc.
The above paragraph contains many of the valuable search terms for real estate, excluding specific local community names and a few other specific terms that consumers may search in locating property. Now compare the size of that paragraph with the almost endless ( and mostly useless ) list of key words found below from my over 800 posts. OK, take a breath. This was just a simple way to make a point. Think about what people search for and keep your title and content keyword relevant to what is being searched. Tough lesson that I am finally gaining on.
