Annual Trip to the World Famous Golden Door Spa
This past Thursday provided me a very special treatof being invited as a lunch guest by a patron of the Golden Door, The World famous Health Spa. From the moment the front gate opened, you feel the exclusive nature of this amazing luxury spa. Set out over several hundreds acres of the most magnificent grounds, one is easily taken in by its sheer beauty and tranquility.
A family friend who frequents the spa with annual regularity, invited me once again to join her and her three daughters for a specially prepared lunch at the koi pond. The stylings at this spa opened since 1958 are of the Japanese Honjin Inns famous in Japan. And as far as I could tell, from style of the architecture to the sheer beauty of the surroundings, that I just as well could have been in Japan.
Tucked away in an exclusive area north of Escondido, the location of this exclusive spa would be missed unless you knew exactly how to get to to it. There are no signs or markers other than the large gates set well onto the property.
strong>I had the cell phone camera in hopes of at least one photo and I was able to snap a quick picture of the Japenese Bento Box that was served for lunch. Being allergic to sea food I was served Broccoli soup in a covered teak bow and a stunning platter of salad greens covered with braised chicken with a light lemon dressing. Out of this world flavors. After this I was served a bowl of fresh berries with a side of berry sorbet topped with fresh spearmint.
Out of my respect for the Golden Doors exclusive nature and respect for the invitation to be invited for lunch, I respected the no pictures rules but I couldn't resist just a quick snap shot of lunch to share with you here in the Rain. Besides nothing I could take pictures of could even come close to capturing what I was taking in using all of my senses. The Golden Door has a web site and they even have a picture gallery but I can tell you the pictures they include don’t even come close to the splendor and tranquility of the magnificent surroundings. The entire experience can not be expressed in pictures anyway. The total of all your senses would be needed to fully appreciate.
The luncheon was served by the koi pond in a setting that was almost hypnotic in its calming beauty. The attention to details as well as the lunch itself was a rare annual treat that I look forward to each year in May. Before lurch we exchanged a few friendship gifts. I was gifted this year with a set of large Lemon Verbena candles in hurricanes with silver lids. I presented each of the women, large bouquets of roses for them to enjoy in their private rooms on their annual pilgrimage for a week of de-stressing and pampering at this most celebrated spa.
