The San Diego County Fair
One of the largest annual events in San Diego County is the Fair. Drawing in over 1.5 million attendees, it is the 10th largest Fair in the US.
The San Diego County fair will run for 21 days through the July 4th holiday. This years theme is " Mad About the Fair" a take off on the Mad Hatter Tea Party. The Fair salutes the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carrol's much beloved book, " Alice's Adventures in Wonderland ".
Our fair is noted for it's weird and fried concoctions. I mostly stay away from those things but for the younger generations that have not had cholesterol issues as yet, they seem to relish these dishes. I am not going to describe the dozen or so foods because they actually don't do a thing for my appetite.
The only deep fried thing I actually crave is plump and golden Southern Fried Chicken and for that I am willing for forgo the worry about cholesterol.
There is a ton of entertainment and depending on your own taste, there is something for everyone.
One of the things I most appreciate, besides parking at the fair, is the remote parking at several locations and you park you car and the bus will take you directly to the entrance. Parking on site is $10 per car and depending what time you get to fair grounds, you may actually have to walk quite a distance to the gates. So I recommend you actually use the off-site parking and leave the " driving to us" as they say.
In my County Western dancing days, I loved donning my cowboy boots and hat and I felt like I fit right in. Today, that attire is not so prevalent so I will be leaving my Stetson's and Lucchese western boots at home.
See You At the Fair
