San Diego News Flash! Big Bay Boom a Explosive Bust !
Hundreds of thousands of San Diegans see 4 giant simultaneous explosions instead of the promised extraodinary fireworks display.
I arrived hours earlier than the planned 9:00PM show to be sure I had a great parking space. I went to the same location ( rooftop of the San Diego Hilton Hotel) and could see a large section of the San Diego Bay. It was fun being able to watch the large barges being pulled into place and 9:00 PM, a computer glitch fired all the fireworks on all four barges, all at the same time. The explosion was huge and luckily no one was injured.
I expect that the contractor for the show will be doing some serious explaining.
500,000 were expected in attendance but cooler weather and overcast skies may have diluted that number of spectators but all including me were sadly disappointed.

This photo was taken by a friend with a point and shoot camera.
While the fireworks were a complete bust, I was able to get some exciting night time photos using my DSLR of the Bay and the downtown area including the under construction library and a spectacular visiting yacht from the Cayman Islands with it's own helicopter on board.
Here is one of the San Diego Downtown at Night photos.
