San Diego Gas and Electric Provides a Free Home Heating System Check Up

I am representing a young couple who are first time buyers. They are purchasing a 99% fully remodeled and beautifully upgraded condominium. We did our Contractors Inspection and nearly everything checked out fine. There was a question concerning an aging heating system about adding central air. I suggested that the gas furnace be checked out by SDG&E which has a free service provided here in San Diego.
I met with the inspector and I was delighted with the care upon which he checked out the heating system. He did recommend that an aluminum gas line be replaced with a flex line but said it was still OK. I advised the Buyer of the recommendation and they agreed this should be done.
I was talking to the service representative and had mentioned that I have always recommended this service to my Buyers and he commented that as far as he knew, this service being free to any new or exiting homeowners was unique to San Diego. I mentioned to him how impressed I was as a real estate professional to have this great service and how wonderful the representatives were. In the case of new Buyers, they will even write out a report in the event it is needed for a Buyer Repair Request.
It occurred to me that I should take a photo and I asked him if it was OK to add to this on my blog site and he said of course. As I writing this , I looked on the SDG&E site and I learned a few more details of the service checks that SDG&E representatives will do for homeowners. SDG&E also has quite a number of programs set up for energy retrofit rebates and credits as well as target programs that benefit San Diego citizens, businesses and healthcare institutions.
SDG&E will trim trees when contact between tree branches and power lines or between poles, is determined to be unsafe
SDG&E will send out a service representative to give your gas appliances a free inspection and mark the gas and electric appliances for the visually-impaired.
SDG&E will perform free service checks for the furnace to check for Carbon Monoxide and safe operation.
Visit the SDG&E website for the specific programs that are established for consumers and businesses in San Diego.

William, great reminder of free services from SDG&E - I will reblog this for my clients & readers. Thank you! ~ Susan
This is a great service to provide because it only saves them money. Great post
Hi William...What a Great service for home buyers, very smart heating contractor. Smart Realtor to align yourself with this Company's Free Service for home buyers in San Diego
Cheers
William Excellent community post on a vital subject - home safety. The inspector certainly looks happy with his work.
Hi Susan, Thank you. It is a great service and we should all take advantage of for our clients. SDG&E recommend this be done each year before using the gas furnace and they will check other gas appliances like the water heater while they are there in the home.
Hi Harry, and it could even save lives from Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Great service.
Hi Fred, It just makes good sense to utilize all the arrows in our quiver. Thanks for dropping by.
Hi Karen, I think I should have used the words, Home Safety in the title. I always feel good when my own furnace gets a good check-up and the green light for use when it gets cold. I have always been impressed with this company , this service and I am so pleased that I remembered to write this. :-). With all the negativity in the world, it just feels good to point out things that are positive and that make such a comforting difference in our lives.
Every service rep I have encountered has always been pleasant to work with. They obviously love what they do and it shows. Kudos to SDG&E for their great personnel as well.
William,
If people would check this service is probably available from their local gas company, too.
Bill
Hi William - that is great that they offer this free service. I agree with your comment as well "With all the negativity in the world, it just feels good to point out things that are positive and that make such a comforting difference in our lives". Agreed!
William - These services provided by various energy companies around the state can be of real benefit. In Sacramento we have The Partners program via PG&E. It is for mainly low income folks. They come in and weatherstrip, and provide other no cost energy saving measures.
What a great service AND IT'S FREE! That's a great price.
Our local Electric co-op will do an infrared heat loss scan to show people where they are losing heat. I think thats a great service too.
Hi Bill, It might be available. Though when I was talking to the service rep, he mentioned that this was a unique program for San Diego. But what you suggest makes sense. Everyone should check anyways.
Hi Sharon, Gladyou picked up on that. It does seem like the right thing to do,
William,
It is off topic, I simply wanted to say "Hi" and congratulate you on crossing the 500,000 point mark.
More rain ahead...
Hi Jon, Thank you, it feels good to finally get there. I lost my MAC for the 3 to 5 days ( it got sick and needs a transplant of a new hard drive and logic board and I am using a small screen PC notebook and it can hardly see the print, LOL. I will get over to your blog in bit and leave you a comment. I saw that you had commented on some of the benefits with ActiveRain but I haven't been able to get all the comments responded to as yet. I will get there.
